About Tummy Tuck Scars
The truth is, scars after tummy tuck are not that bad.
Not only are they easy to conceal, but you can employ different measures to make sure they heal properly.
Tummy Tuck Scar Appearance
Depending on the type of tummy tuck you undergo, you may have different incisions on various parts of your midsection.
- Horizontal Scar
Placed below the panty line, the horizontal scar spans the length of your lower belly and stretches from hip bone to hip bone. It is done to remove excess skin and minimize the appearance of stretch marks.
- Belly Button Scar
After removing excess skin, your plastic surgeon also needs to secure your belly button in place. That’s the purpose of the incision around the belly button. Plastic surgeons often opt for an inverted U-shaped incision instead of a round incision around the belly button to mimic its natural shape.
Tummy Tuck Scar Treatment
To allow your tummy tuck scars to heal nicely, you can do the following:
Your plastic surgeon will give you instructions on how to take care of your incisions right after surgery. Make sure that you follow his wound care instructions for optimum tummy tuck scar healing.
Ultraviolet exposure can darken and thicken your scars, so stay away from the sun at all times. Cover up your scars when going out, or at least apply an SPF 50 sunscreen.
Once your incisions have closed, you can start applying topical treatments to minimize the appearance of your scars. These include silicone strips, cortisone for keloid scars, and hydroquinone cream. You may also massage your scar to prevent it from hardening.
If you want to conceal your abdominoplasty scar, you may get tummy tuck scar tattoos to cover up your scar. Just make sure that you do this after your incision has completely closed and healed, as the tattooing process can cause infections if done on open wounds.
Consider Tummy Tuck Scar Revision.
If you really don’t like the appearance of your scars, you may want to consult your plastic surgeon for a possible tummy tuck scar revision.
Tummy tuck scars are inevitable in every abdominoplasty procedure. Fortunately, a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon will always make sure that your scars after tummy tuck will become virtually unnoticeable, placing them where they can be easily covered by your bikini or underwear.

Common Myths about Tummy Tuck Surgery
The lack of knowledge among most people concerning this procedure has led to the development of numerous myths.
Myth # 1: A Tummy Tuck is Only for Women
One of the most common myths about tummy tuck services offered in Miami is that they are only appropriate for women. The truth of the matter is, this procedure is not gender-specific. In fact, thousands of men have the abdominoplasty procedure performed each year and that number continues to grow. While it is true that, at this point in history, the surgical procedure is more common among women than men, it is not due to the fact that it is designed only for women. It is a known fact that many women experience excess weight and/or loose skin issues after pregnancy, during their adult years, and even after certain milestones in their lives, such as menopause; however, men also experience complications with loose skin and excess weight for various reasons. Numerous men have a desire to have loose skin removed and stubborn flab eliminated from their bodies. As a result, the tummy tuck experts in Miami are trained to offer this procedure for both men and women of all ages.
Myth # 2: The Tummy Tuck Procedure is Designed for those That Are Lazy or Lack the Motivation to Lose Weight and Exercise
Since the tummy tuck procedure began to be performed in Miami, there has been a myth circulating that this procedure is specifically designed for those that lack the motivation and enthusiasm to lose weight and engage in physical activity that will help in reshaping their body from the development of excess weight. It is important to understand that this is a myth. A tummy tuck is not considered to be a procedure for weight loss. Instead, it is a means for healthy individuals who are within a short range of what is considered to be their ideal weight to eliminate excess skin and/or tissue that remains after losing unwanted pounds, or, after experiencing pregnancy. If there is loose skin and/or tissue remaining on the body, it could be extremely challenging to eliminate it due to the fact that this skin and/or tissue often lacks the elasticity that is required to become firm, even with continuous exercise. By having a tummy tuck in Miami, this complication may be overcome and excess skin and tissue may be removed so that an individual may regain the attractive firmness that they desire in the abdominal region.
Myth #3: A Tummy Tuck is the Same Thing as Liposuction
Many individuals are under the impression that a tummy tuck and liposuction are one and the same. The truth of the matter is that these are two, very different procedures. A tummy tuck is a procedure that is designed to remove excess skin and/or tissue from the abdominal region of the body. A liposuction procedure removes the fat that is located underneath the skin in the abdominal region, but above the muscles that are part of the stomach. Individuals that elect to have a tummy tuck performed do not, necessarily, have to have liposuction performed; however, there are some instances in which this is recommended to optimize the overall success rate of the tummy tuck. The tummy tuck and the liposuction procedures are two, completely different operations.
